Back on February, immediately after Favre retired for the second time, we made the bold prediction that Favre would be a Viking.  We really hoped (and prayed) that it wouldn't come true.  We love Favre - always will - but to see him face down enter Lambeau field wearing purple is about the saddest thing we can comprehend.

And according to ProFootballTalk.com, Favre has signed a contract and that contract has now been confirmed by another source.

Unless his arm has some a setback, or he doesn't pass a physical (or he changes his mind), this sad nightmare will continue in 2009.

But if you're an Packer fan - this is probably best.  The two games versus the Viqueens will now put closure on the Favre vs. Ted Thompson debate.  And eyes now fall directly on Aaron Rodgers.  If he has good games versus the Vikings and Favre doesn't - he'll finally be accepted as the heir to Packerland's throne.

Finally we get some word from Brett regarding his on-again-off-again flirtation with the Vikings.

Favre appeared on the HBO new show "Joe Buck Live" this evening (June 15).  According to Joe, Favre orginally agreed to do the show last February and Buck seemed surprised that he kept his word and appeared.

The interview was actually pretty interesting.  As you can tell from the title of the show, it was live, so Favre probably gave a little more than he wanted to.  This is what we learned or confirmed:

1. Favre's arm was in awful shape at the end of the season; he thought that he could not play again, even with surgery... surgery that he did not want to have.

2. He has spoken with the Vikings to gauge a "mutual" interest.

3. The Vikings are the perfect place for him because he knows the offense well enough "that I could teach it".

4. He had surgery on or around May 28.  It was performed by Dr. James Andrews

5. Dr. Andrews told Brett that he should know by July 1 whether the bicep/shoulder is fixed.

6. If it's fixed, he's going to play for the Vikings.

7. If it's not good, he's done (for now).

8. A Vikings trainer was at his house on Sunday and gave him some rehab exercises.

At one point Favre referred to the Vikings as 'we': "we could be pretty good."  That shows you that things are pretty friendly.

To his credit, Favre was quite convincing.  He seemed apologetic about the whole situation.  He told Joe that John Madden told him that 'once he's done he'll be done' and that's the main reason he's still trying to play.

So it all comes down to the shoulder.  We should know by July 1.

FYI, there should be some video at the HBO website.
